Wonkybot Studios announces the casting of 11-year-old Maia McLachlan as the voice of Valerie The Vampire in its brand new podcast series, Spooky Troop. Created by award-winning children and family television writer Stewart St John, the series debuts today on iTunes, Google Play Music and on Wonkybot.com.
“Maia’s infectious, sweet energy completely charmed us when we heard her audition tape,” said St John. “I’m thrilled to have her voice this special character, a character so close to my heart.”
In the series, Valerie Van Vleet is one of the seven misfits monsters who were born good in a wicked world. She’s an 8-year-old vampire with a penchant for being inquisitive, which usually lands her in big trouble. She’s brave, outspoken and dedicated to protecting the strange animals who roam the Netherworld.
“I’m thrilled and excited to be playing the role of Valerie The Vampire,” she said from her home in Sydney, Australia. “I had a great time working with the Wonkybot team and look forward to more opportunities ahead. And I can’t wait to listen to the show!”
Maia has been steadily booking voice-over gigs in Australia, Europe and the US over the past 18 months. A natural performer, she also loves to sing, dance and figure skate.
